Preparing Transformative Teachers

Muktangan's Pre‑Service Teacher Education programme prepares men and women from underserved communities to become skilled, reflective, child‑friendly educators - the teachers who go on to transform public schools from the inside. The programme is completely free of cost, opening the profession to talented people who could never otherwise afford teacher training.

100% Free and fully funded programme for all trainees.

Our Mission

To develop teachers from the community who are passionate about transforming the way children learn

Nurturing them as reflective thinkers, empathetic facilitators, and skilled practitioners.

The Opportunity We Create

Two gaps hold back public education: children need great teachers, and talented people in underserved communities - especially women - rarely get access to quality teacher education.

Muktangan closes both at once. Because the programme is offered free of cost, the biggest barrier disappears. We open the profession to community members who know their children and context intimately, and we prepare them to an exacting standard. The result is trusted teachers for the classroom and new careers and leadership for the community.

How We Train

Learning by Doing & Reflecting

Our trainees learn the way we want them to teach: actively, by doing and reflecting.

Active constructivism

Trainees experience child‑centred learning firsthand, so they understand and value it before they lead it.

The 5E model in every session

Engage → Explore → Explain → Elaborate → Evaluate – keeping learning meaningful, experiential, and tied to real classrooms.

Differentiated instruction

Sessions are designed so trainees with different levels of English can all participate, reflect, and grow with confidence.

Theory meets practice, every week

Roughly 3½ days of academic sessions and 2 full days of classroom fieldwork, plus regular exposure visits.

Signature Experience

Balak Palak Mela

Each year, our trainees design and run a large learning‑through‑play mela for preschool children and their parents. Children and parents take part, trainees create Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) activity corners, and it models joyful, play‑based learning – families often stay to explore long after school hours.
