We aim at impacting not only the educationally underserved communities but the larger education system. Being a demonstration model, we believe in collaborating and liaisoning with the government and partner organizations in urban and rural areas, enabling them to contextualize their education philosophy into a holistic, inclusive and child-friendly practice. This is done through the Muktangan Education Resource Centre (MERC), a hub where all our teaching-learning approaches are researched. Once these approaches are successfully tried and tested, the learnings are incorporated into the teacher education programme. Our ultimate goal is advocating the best practices of our programme which can further be replicated and contextualized to facilitate more universally applicable learnings. We regularly participate in discussion panels, consultation forums and “think-tanks” as well as present papers at the local, state, national and international forums to advocate our learnings and processes. We have fostered effective relationships with local, State and National Government officials to further our goal.
We have initiated a 3-year progressive model in partnership with the BMC schools from G-South, G-North, F-North, F-South Wards of Mumbai to achieve foundational literacy and numeracy goals envisaged by NIPUN Bharat. As a part of the project, Muktangan teachers are conducting direct FLN sessions and share relevant resources with the BMC schools in collaboration with the school and parent community.
A majority of children in Mumbai rely on Municipal schools and therefore transforming the quality of education in civic schools is the need of the hour. We have partnered with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to transform 18 municipal schools in phase 1 of the Darjaonnati project (2019-2022). We aim at transforming these civic schools by providing training in constructivist teaching-learning pedagogy and processes to educators.
We have also partnered with the Municipal schools in G-South ward to transform all schools into Unique schools with the aim of improving teaching learning processes from Balwadis to STD 8. We realized that sharing strategies and addressing challenges together is necessary which is why we havealso initiated ‘Shared Professional Forums’ to equip educators with curricular and pedagogic skills. Ensuring the mental health and well-being of people especially in the pandemic is very crucial. Through this project we aspire to share digital content and assist teachers with their socio-emotional skills that are needed to build resilience within their parents and student communities.
We have partnered with the Doorstep School with focus on building capacity of teachers to deliver a quality English language development program that will support and strengthen teaching-learning process for grade 1 to 4 children going to English medium schools.
Education and learning are not limited to the boundaries of our country. Since 2017, we partnered with the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) and have ventured into an unforgettable journey to ensure excellence in programme delivery, student learning, and teacher development to better educational outcomes in pre-school. Muktangan hosted six engaging series of workshops facilitated through SIF and provided training to 10 Early Childhood Education (ECE) focused organizations till date.
The ECHO Model is an online, case-based learning model connecting participants across the globe for building capacity and sharing best practices. One of the key focus areas is to bridge educational gaps by empowering teachers with different teaching learning strategies to address challenges such as classroom diversity, lack of resources and skills, differences in learning styles of children and curricular adaptation. We kick-started the first ECHO session in the month of February on two very interesting topics- Student Engagement Strategies and Early Childhood Education (ECE) Curriculum Enhancement.
