What Makes Our Teacher Training Programme So Unique?

Our model focuses on developing members, mostly women from underserved educational communities into confident and skilled teachers and teacher educators. The fact that our teachers belong to the same socio-cultural background as students makes it easier to contextualize our education programmes to address the real needs of the community. This has enabled us to propagate holistic education by merging community experience with formal knowledge. Our programme has empowered and provided livelihood opportunities to many women who have bloomed into compassionate teachers and teacher educators.

Our teacher education programme consists of three vital components which are as follows- 

Pre-service Teacher Education

At the heart of this program is the idea of developing community members into change facilitators in education. Our pre-service teacher education programme aims at equipping teacher trainees with a strong theoretical foundation in the core areas of child development, emergent literacy, maths, critical thinking, inclusive practices and personal educational beliefs. Teacher trainees also have to undergo a comprehensive internship programme of 400 hours in Muktangan schools which helps them establish a relationship between theory and practice. Our teacher trainees enjoy learning through active constructivism under the guidance of our experienced faculty.

Inservice Teacher Education

After completing the 1-year pre-service programme, our candidates serve as teachers in our schools. During this tenure they are supported and further developed through orientation meetings, weekly curriculum understanding and design meetings and English proficiency sessions. Teachers are also encouraged to develop their knowledge, competencies and perspectives on education.

Teacher Appraisal

At Muktangan we value the contribution of our teachers by a holistic appraisal programme. Teachers and trainees undertake a self-appraisal facilitated by experienced faculty thrice a year based on their Key Performance Areas (KPA) and critical attributes (CA). They provide constructive feedback, skill development and professional growth opportunities. It also helps us explore the teacher’s interests and areas of expertise within the organization.
