We have gained much from the leadership and vision of our distinguished Trustees. They all share Muktangan’s goal of making inclusive and high-quality education a reality for all children. They bring with them an exceptional set of professional and personal skills and firmly believe in the Muktangan ideology of ‘learning and growing together’.

Elizabeth MehtaMrs. Elizabeth Mehta is an accomplished educationist with over four decades of experience in school level education including extensive work in rural India. She has been involved in every aspect of school education from teaching in schools, managing them and developing child-centred curricula. She has also conducted classroom-based pedagogical research and has participated in several international and national conferences and study tours. At Muktangan, Mrs. Mehta oversees the programmatic aspects of the seven schools and teacher education institute. For her exemplary work in education through the years and for setting up the Muktangan Schools Network Elizabeth Mehta has recently been awarded the title ‘Member of the Most Excellent  Order of The British Empire’ (MBE) announced in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2015!

Sunil MehtaMr. Sunil Mehta is Chairman of Paragon Textile Mills Pvt Ltd., manufacturers of Elpar fabrics and Chairman & Managing Director of Paragon Properties Enterprises Private Limited. He has been deeply involved in education for many years holding positions including that of the Chairman of Bombay International School Association. Mr. Mehta has sourced the capital and support for Muktangan since its inception. At Muktangan, Sunil oversees the team dealing with the operational aspects of the organization including Fundraising, Public Relations, Human Resource, Administration and Finance.

Julio RebeiroAn Indian Police Service Officer by profession, Mr. Julio Ribeiro has served as Commissioner of Police – Mumbai, Special Secretary of the Government of India – Home Ministry, Advisor to the Governor of Punjab, and as Ambassador to Romania. Mr. Ribeiro is currently Executive Chairman of the Public Concern for Governance Trust and a member of the Union Home Minister’s Council for Communal Harmony. At Muktangan, Mr. Ribeiro is an independent Trustee.

Vijaya ChauhanAn educationist by profession, Ms. Vijaya Chauhan is a retired Programme Officer in charge of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) at UNICEF and continues to advise on educational issues at a national Level. At Muktangan, Ms. Chauhan advises and actively participates in the Teacher Education Programme.

Ashok ShahA Chartered Accountant by profession, Mr. Ashok Shah is Senior Partner of N .A. Shah Associates, a reputed Chartered Accountants’ firm in Mumbai, advising on varied matters including taxation, audits and business re-structuring. At Muktangan, Mr. Shah advises the Trust on financial and taxation matters.

Navroz SeervaiA Senior Advocate by profession, Mr. Navroz Seervai is a leading Counsel, practising in the Honourable High Court at Mumbai and the Supreme Court. Mr. Seervai is Treasurer and Secretary for the Bombay Unit of Peoples Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) and a part- time legal activist for the Bombay Environmental Action Group. At Muktangan, Mr. Seervai advises the Trust on legal matters.

Farida BhathenaA finance and legal professional , Ms. Farida Bhathena is Vice-President – Finance and Legal at Paragon Property Enterprises Pvt Ltd and a Director of Paragon Textile Mills Pvt. Ltd. At Muktangan, Ms. Bhathena supervises the day-to-day finance, accounts, and taxation matters of the Trust.
